Make complexity workable

SynTopic is a startup founded in 2025 by a team centered on doctoral students, building on more than two years of R&D in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Tokyo.

Space development demands enormous investment — not only in satellites and spacecraft, but in accumulating knowledge and developing people. Yet chronic understaffing means insight is lost and the same failures repeat. What documentation remains lacks context, and in the end you must ask whoever was there — a problem that exists far beyond aerospace.

We researched MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering), the academic field for structuring space systems, but its learning and maintenance costs limit practical use. While developing CubeSats, we kept experimenting — systems engineering, knowledge management, decision support, natural language processing — and arrived at a knowledge unit of our own: the "Topic."

A Topic is a unit of knowledge that preserves even the reasoning behind decisions and the lessons of failure. Because background and history are structured too, everyday insight becomes a reusable asset that travels across time and organizations. We aim for a society where structured knowledge circulates and value is created across time and boundaries — fewer losses to failure and rework, more room for what matters. Starting from space, we are accelerating projects worldwide.
